About
Next Pest Thing is a publication and community for pest control business owners. We publish what works, written by people who build and grow these companies, and we keep it specific enough to act on the same week you read it.
The name is a play on next best thing, which is roughly how the good ideas travel in this industry already. An owner tries something with their route in Fort Worth, it works, and eleven months later three companies in Ohio are running the same play. We are here to move that along faster, with the numbers attached.
Our subjects are the parts of the business that decide whether a company grows well. Paid ads and the cost of a call. Lead generation you own outright. The handful of numbers worth watching every week. Retention, which is the entire recurring revenue model in one word. Pricing, hiring, and the operations work that fills a route.
Every piece is reported with operators, and we ask for the actual figures. Ranges instead of adjectives, benchmarks instead of theory, and enough detail that you can compare your own account to what you read.
We write the way owners talk to each other, plainly and in sentence case, because that is the voice this industry trusts. If you have a play that worked, we want to hear how the numbers moved, and we will help you tell it.
